This story is based on the fascinating and fantastical version of Adam and Eve found in The Urantia Book. I’d read it many years before it took hold and re-emerged as a series of images that looked and felt like Tarot Cards. About halfway through working on the series it dawned on me that they could be cards the Urantia Book’s Mother Eve might pull.
It took many years to write this because I think I had to go through the experience of being a mother myself. It’s only then you can understand how devastating decisions can be—especially ones that feel inspired and hopeful in the moment but also immune to foresight.
This storybook for grown-ups is dedicated “To Every Mother Who’s Ever Made a Mistake”. That might be quite a few of us.
